MARKET SQUARE 18
The square was the focal point of Antrim at the time so let us start at the left side of the photograph. Here you can see a little girl shading her eyes looking towards the camera while next to her a mother holds up her child to be seen. Right above them at the top window is a black and white cat and in the bottom right hand window a lady is looking out. Standing in the doorway is most likely the owner of the Bluebird Café, which was later owned by Miss Forbes, next door is Thompson's who dealt in fancy goods.The large building in the centre is the Court house and in front of it the small building was the Weighing Bridge. The six small boys in front of the Court house three of them are called Sammy Kyle, Andy Hemmings and Bobby McCormick.

The reason being it was Captain's Day back in 1953, only two people are known, 2nd from the left at the back is Alan Abercrombie and next to him Billy Jarden.

Here we are on one of the courts belonging to Muckamore Tennis Club. Now these two girls whose names are unknown look like they belong to the Girls Brigade.

MASSEREENE ARMS HOTEL FLYER 2750
This Massereene Arms Hotel flyer back in 1952 shows that the hotel trade was still booming, in fact two years later and the hotel would be celebrating its 200th Anniversary. It had hot and cold water in each of its 54 beds and electric light and heating throughout, while the local people would be lucky to have cold water in their homes. The hotel could seat 110 people in their dining room and also 2 large lounges to relax in. It also had a spacious Ballroom where every evening they would hold either Dances, Concerts, Whist & Beetle Drives and also anything that was the rage at time.

Hard at work outside his smithy in 1954 is John Coulter shoeing the horse, holding on to the reins is the owner's employee. Watching intently on the left are three young lads who's names are unknown to me at the moment.The man on the extreme right is Tom Kelly who lived in Spa Terrace, Massereene Street. Tom was the head greenkeeper at Massereene Golf Club.

Here Stirling Moss in his Mereceds 300 SLR has had a bit of an accident while racing in the quarry bends at Dundrod in 1955 for the Tourist Trophy race.

MASSEREENE BRASS AND REED BAND 2832
This is a close-up of one of the weather vanes that decorated the roof top of the Massereene Brass and Reed Band's band room.At the top is a mermaid which is on the crest of Viscount Massereene & Ferrard. Then below the points of the compass is what looks like a butterfly.

This is Muckamore Ladies Cricket XI outside the cricket club, sadly the year is unknown.
At the back are Elsie King, Nan McIlroy Meta Wallace, Unknown, Nell McIlroy, Pam McQuilken and Umpire J. Stewart.
In front we have Unknown, Lily Kelly, Essie Graham (Captain), A.W Richardson, finally Unknown. Essie Graham and Nan McIlroy went on to receive their Ulster Caps in cricket.

12th VISCOUNT MASSEREENE AND FERRARD'S FUNERAL 2826
It's the 24th July 1956 and a sad for Antrim for this is the funeral of the 12th Viscount Massereene & Ferrard.
The townspeople line High Street as the funeral cortege passes on the route from All Saints' Parish Church which is the background to the familyburial ground in the Castle estate. The pallbearers were the new Viscount and five past and present workers on the estate one of which was Olive Heming's father George Fleming.

MASSEREENE NATIONAL SCHOOL 1439
Massereene National School's Prize Day in 1950 which was held in the Protestant Hall in Railway Street. On the left is the Headmaster Mr Charles and handing out the prizes is the minister's wife Mrs. Hawkins. The girl receiving her prize is Unknown and so are the two boys beside her. The boy wearing glasses is Stanley Molloy, then Unknown, Eileen Bell, Unknown, Ethel McKee (why is she dressed?), Unknown, Alan Gillespie, Unknown and Unknown.

All full of voice and singing their hearts out are the pupils of Massereene National School on their Prize Day in 1950 at the Protestant Hall in Railway Street.

Master Morrow and Dougie Lennon. The first boy on the right in the back row is John Knox of "Johns Carpets" and the rest of the row are unknown.

MUCKAMORE PRESBYTERIAN FOOTBALL CLUB 1285
No wonder these players and members of Muckamore Presbyterian Football Club are all smiles 1950 for in the season 1949 - 1950 they have won the Irish Junior Cup and the Co. Antrim Junior Shield.

This train No.68 is picking up passengers at Muckamore Station (Islandbawn) in 1959. In the background to the right are the Summerhill hill flats.

Every boy's dream a shed to play in and this one was in the back yard of Coulter's Co-op shop in Market Square in 1957.
On the left is Stanley Coulter with his mate Raymond Gaynor, and kneeling is Leslie McCullough nursing Tim the Coulter's family pet.

These girls of Massereene National School on their Prize Day in 1950 are getting ready to sing accompanied by Miss Bell on the piano.
Of the three girls at the back only Paula Fleming is known. The middle row has Alice Nicholl, Madeline Fleming, Violet Bell, the next three are unknown.
In front we have Unknown, Stella Lynn, Hazel Nixon and the other three girls are unknown. Also unknown are the two girls in the audience

MAY QUEEN 1647
This is Antrim's May Queen Mary Marley and either side of her are her ladies-in-waiting, on the left is Hillary Moffat and on the right Marlyn Milligan.
The photo was taken in the Castle grounds and although the girls look very summery look at the spectators, some even with the good old ' Plastic Macs'.

MARKET YARD 1606
This is Billie Sharples with his arm round Margaret Kyle getting their photograph taken. The caravan behind them is where they lived here in the Market Yard. Billy owned the Merry-Go-Round with the hobby horses, they also had swing boats and a palm reader.

Sitting on the wall outside the Beetling Mill at Moylena in 1957 we have on the left Grannie Margaret Boyd,on her lap is Ester Reade.
Next to Grannie are two sisters Lena and Madge Ferguson who has her arms round her niece Margaret Patterson.
Next hiding behind her sister Evelyn Reade is Margaret Reade and kneeling down is Lena Reade.

MUCKAMORE R. FOOTBALL TEAM 1478
This is the 1923 Muckamore R. Football Team along with the men behind the scenes getting their photograph taken at Muckamore but where is unknown.
Displaying their hard work for the season the have a cup and a shield. which at the moment are unknown, also what the 'R' stands for.

Middle row has Jim McCormick, Unknown, Unknown, Charlie Clark (not Chuckie but his Dad), Unknown, Unknown, Unknown and Davy Craig Snr.

This is Muckamore Tennis Club in 1973 and smiling they should be for they have won the Belfast & District League Section 10. Standing at the back are D. Deery, Dr. R. Smith (Gent's Capt.), D. Clement and N. Craig. The ladies are Mrs. L. Ross (Ladies Capt.), Mrs. N. McKeown, Mrs. R. Sweetman and Mrs. N. Craig.

This little cutie getting her photograph taken has not changed much in the few years since this was taken.
The year was 1946 and aged 4 this is our very own Patricia Mackreth!

MAID OF ANTRIM 1999
This is the 'Maid of Antrim' just coming out of the Sixmilewater river and into Lough Neagh.
As you can see it was a very popular boat and as usual packed with people.
