ANTRIM AERIAL VIEW 624
This spectacular shot was taken in the skies over Antrim in the summer of 1943. Of special interest are some of the details of the town below. If you look closely you can see that Antrim Castle was still standing more than two decades after it was devastated by fire, The walled gardens to the rear of the Castle, however, had by this stage fallen into neglect and were overgrown, also so were the green houses. Castle Street, the Court House and High Street are also clearly visible. Also notice the straight road which headed out towards the Lough, more than 10 years before the Firfields estate was built.

The aircraft is an Avro 652A Anson Mark 1. They were navigation, Bombing, Gunnery and radio trainer aircraft, and they were returning from a war-time training run over the Lough. The planes were also used by Coastal Command squadrons to perform inshore maritime patrols.
